The end of our journey ...
Thank You
a . Opinion and why selected these two place
As a student in Kampar, we are consistently here looking for the all good food. This stall is called Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun (水记猪肠粉). From what I heard from my friend, this stall is usually crowded even before business starts. This stall has more than 30 years old history in the night market since year 1985. The rice noodles roll or better known as “Chee Cheong Fun”. It is steamed sheets of rice dough rolled up to look like its moniker that translates as pig’s intestines noodle. Chunky pieces of the tasty dried shrimp with the chinese chives in the rice noodles become the biggest selling point. The house made rice noodles was so smooth, freshly steamed and slurp-worthy. Chee Cheong Fun is eaten with a variety of different gravies and sauces as well as accompanying “yong taufu” style side dishes. The steamed fried pork skin is our favorite side dish with Chee Cheong Fun. The steamed pork skin sponged up the curry gravy well. You can choose to have your rice noodles with chili sauce, sweet sauce, shallot oil or preserved green chilies. Besides selling Chee Cheong Fun, this stall also sell peanut paste, taro cake, and glutinous rice.
Wai Kee Curry Mee (威记四会赖粉) is located in a house, the famous curry soup is a must and it is only available on Monday and Thursday. Gary and Orange of 8TV anchor ever interview to promote this Lai Fun. We also have been attracted by their TV program. There are a lot of side dished can be chosen such as fried tauhu, bitter gourd, meatballs and so on. All the side dishes are put inside a bowl. Other noodles and soup are also available such as mee, bihun, curry, broth and so on. Curry is our choice undoubtedly. When the workers there pour the hot and spicy sour curry soup in to the bowl. The soup is delicious, and you will be feeling hot and sweaty. That is the final and happiest moment of it.
An affordable price is obviously one of the most important aspects that drive us to select these two places. They offer a low and reasonable price for both the fun (粉) and side dishes. These two places located at a good and convenient location that gives benefits to large number of customer’s attraction. Since it is located nearby our student hostel, all we need are to spend roughly 10-15 minutes to get there. Besides, people will always introduce the nice food through word-of-mouth and also sharing through the network like Instagram, Facebook, and blog. They gave lot of positive comments and feedback on these two stalls. This will let us be more interesting on both food stalls mentioned earlier.

c. Business Models
Business model can be defined as the description of the rationale of how an organization captures, delivers and creates value. It has to be intuitive and cover all matters of interest. The concept should be completing simple and relevant without oversimplifying complexities of how enterprises actually run.
We are going to use a well-known business model that creates by Shikar Ghosh (1998). The first element is value proposition. It can be defined as how a company's products or service fulfills the need of customers. The two food stalls that we visited bring high value of proposition to us because they are selling high quality and unique food to their customer. They always make the food one plate by one plate (per serve) since they want to maintain they standard instead of spend more time. Customers can customize every single thing for their food. Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun are selling average around RM5-RM6 per plate while Wai Kee Curry Mee are selling average RM4-RM5 per plate. Therefore, they can be categorized as low price and high quality food in Kampar.
The second element is revenue model. It can be defined on how the firm will earn revenue-generated profits and produce a superior return on invested capital. These two food stalls earn revenue by focus on the quantity of customers order by offering cheap price in order to attract customer to come. Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun and Wai Kee Curry Mee are earning more profit from the quantity of side dishes customer ordered. Customer will order more side dishes compared with other stall because the price of the side dishes in these two stalls are cheaper and hence they will order more.
The third element is market opportunity that defined as the nature and size of a company's marketplace. It refers to a company’s intended marketplace and the overall potential financial opportunities available to the firm in that marketplace. There are opportunities available for Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun and Wai Kee Curry Mee. The reason is because there are no Chee Cheong Fun sell until midnight and there are limited customized side dishes and mee sell in Kampar like Wai Kee Curry Mee.
The fourth element is competitive environment, which means that other company occupying the same marketplace. In other words, it means that competitors. It can be refer as other competition selling similar products and operating in the same marketplace. For the Wai Kee Curry Mee there are many competitors in Kampar but their own unique recipe for the curry had helped them gain competitive advantage among all competitors. For the Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun in market, they are the only one stall that is selling Chee Cheong Fun until midnight. Most of the customers went there for their supper.
The fifth element is competitive advantage that means that the advantages a company enjoys over its competitors. Wai Kee Curry Mee gains competitive advantage in Kampar although they are open their stall far away from most of the students hostel and accommodation, but they provides high standard of products and good services to theirs customer with cheap price. For the Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun, they gain competitive advantage of provide more "unique" supper for customers since during the late night or midnight, most of the stalls left are mamak stall.
The sixth element is market strategy. It can be defined as how a company will target its customers and promote its products. We found these two food stalls: Wai Kee Curry Mee and Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun through social networking spaces that under leisure-oriented sites that named as Facebook, YouTube and etc. They target customers are residents in Kampar and selling their food in cheap price in order to attract customer.
The seventh element is organizational development that is a company's management structure. The food stalls that we had chosen are not a company so they do not have organizational development. They are just a simple and nice food stalls.
The eighth element is management team that means the experience and skills of a company's leaders. It refers to employees of the company responsible for making the business model work. For Wai Kee Curry Mee, the management team is the boss, boss's family members and an aunty to run the business. For the Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun in market is just an old couple selling the food.
d. Basic approach used in marketing and advertising
The food stalls that we visited advertised by using word of mouth and through newspaper such as a show in 8TV : Ho Chak 好吃. Word of mouth advertising is the unpaid spread of a positive marketing message from peer to peer. It can take place directly by using human voice, or can be transmitted via internet or text message. During ancient time, people are relying on word of mouth to promote their goods and services. By using this method it can create trust, consumers tend to trust someone who had recommended them because they assume that person are satisfied with the good and services. Nowadays, more internet users are moving away from “manufactured” messages instead of trust the others opinions which from their family, friend and colleagues.
A research also proves that 88% of consumers trust advertising via word of mouth compared to others. Moreover, word of mouth marketing can help to create a positive reputation and has a potential to create life- long customers. Besides, word of mouth is an inexpensive marketing tool to increase your business sales and profit. When the business is newly launched, it can revitalize the business without costing a dime. For example, Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun (水记猪肠粉) which has operated for more than 30 years is a well known stall in Kampar. The approach that it has used is word of mouth advertising. During the ancient time, there is not much marketing and advertising approach. Therefore, it can only rely on word of mouth advertising in which the customers that are satisfied with their services will tend to recommend the stall to others and eventually helps to promote the stall.
Newspaper advertising is print ads that run in local or national, daily or weekly news publications. Advertised through newspaper is more flexible than other advertising medium. Advertisers can control over the final product with flexibility in content, design, placement and frequency through newspaper by working directly with newspaper staff. Besides, by using newspaper advertising can reach huge amount of customers with rapid response. Many of people feel that certain forms of advertising such as commercials and website pop up ads are trust-less. Consumers will prefer local newspaper because ads content provided by them is more similar to actual content. Not only that, consumers trust that publisher won’t do business with the company that are untrustworthy as the reputation will be gone.
Lastly, newspaper can advertising according to your budget and goal. Sometime it may be advertised your goods or service for free .For example, the store we had visited which are Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun (水记猪肠粉) and Wai Kee Curry Mee (威记四会赖粉), both of them are well known stall in Kampar so that 8tv Ho chiak has help them to promote the stall and published on newspaper to increase their popularity.
e. Recommendations to improve businesses through e-commerce
Nowadays, customers are increasingly turn to the Internet and smartphones for purchasing decisions, economies are seeing brick and mortar evolve into “click and order” and bind with mobile commerce. The number of businesses that expanding their business into online are getting more from grocery stores to electronic devices and almost any product or services can be found in internet. It is because everyday most of people will access the internet by using electronic devices at least once per day so it is easier to let people to know their products through internet. So, I will do the recommendations on the food stalls which are Shui Kee Chee Cheong Fun (水记猪肠粉) and Wai Kee Curry Mee (威记四会赖粉) in order to improve their business through e-commerce.
Firstly, I recommended that both food stalls should fully utilize the power that brought by the social media. Nowadays, people tend to know the update news or latest news by using social media such as Facebook, Wechat, Instagram and others social media apps. So, the owner of food stall can create page of their food stall in order to update the news about their stall. For instances, the promotion of their stalls, off-day of their stalls and others news which is relevant to the stalls in order to let their customers know the information at the first time.
On the other hand, the food stalls also can utilize the social media by using it to take order from their customers. For example, the customers can order the foods that they want to eat through social media such as Whatapps or Wechat. Then, the food stalls can prepare the food for the customers and deliver to customers which are within their area. Since the students in Utar will getting busier during the week with midterms and assignments, the students tend to settle their dinner by using delivery so it will help both food stalls to improve their business. It will improve the interaction between customers and the staff or owner of the food stalls. The customers will feel more convenience to contact with the food stall and tend to order food by using the social media apps.
However, the owner of food stall also can improve their business through e-commerce by create a blog to introduce their food to the people which is outside from the Kampar area. Because people will tend to find food through internet so the blog that created to introduce the food stall might have the chance to know it by them. For instances, peoples who are first time come to Kampar will go and search the delicious food through internet. If the foods of both food stalls get introduced by the blog, people will come and consume their food. Their food will be recommended to other people if they really provide the foods which are delicious with good services. Thus, the reputation and popularity of both food stalls will increase rapidly. So, creation of blog is strong recommended to do by both food stalls.
Lastly, both food stalls are recommended to create an official website in order to let their customers to create account through internet. The customers will get discount or cash back if they using their account to take order. It will improve the loyalty of customers and attract more customers due to the cash back or discount get from the member of the food stall. So, it also can provide the information for their customers like promotion or member discount. It obviously will increase the business of both food stalls due to the customers can get more benefits compare to before.
